Has this Epidemic been Historically Unprecedented in its Mortality Rate?

According to the book "Transmission of Epidemic Influenza" By Edgar Hope-Simpson, this is the normal seasonal course of any influenza epidemic of which Corona Virus is a part of the spectrum.

Viruses are novel every year as they go through mutation known as Antigenic Drift and Antigenic Shift. This year is not an anomaly as the Mass media might suggest. This flu season is not unlike any other of the last several decades when the true stats are evaluated. Not stats based on trumped-up numbers of fictitious case counts and mortalities.

The Spanish Flu, bantered around as though this epidemic compares, caused a loss of life years equivalent to 45 years. This Epidemic on the other hand has a loss of life years equivalent to a little over 6 months. No comparison. Yet again we see a push to make it seem as though we are in some way reliving the 1918 Epidemic. More panic ensues.

It is interesting to note that before 2016 the WHO considered the definition of a pandemic to be qualified by an excess loss of life. Excess mortality, as it were, was the hallmark of pandemic proclamation. That changed after 2016 when the definition became worldwide infection or global flu. This of course is absolutely ludicrous in the light that influenza-like illnesses, of which Corona is a part of the spectrum, are global every year.
